You could build up a quiver of cheap Chinese carbon rims for about a grand. 35mm, 50mm, 66mm, 80mm. Presumably, if you were a flat lander, you should be able to manage the brakes well enough to avoid excessive heat. The rim would have to fail another way. Would it be worth it?

Personally, breaking my face is never worth it. But if I was younger and had the money and could build wheels, it would be more enticing.
