Have made twenty holes in five RANS seats with a soldering iron. They were all made in heavy-duty nylon material sections, which can stand up to some abuse. Sometimes it helps to poke through first with a needle to visualize exactly where the hole needs to be. Chalk could be helpful, too. Don't burn yourself.
