Some time in the mid 80's, I got a blue Murray mountain bike with 24" rims for Christmas. Impressed with the speed afforded by gearing, I took it to a friend's house and challenged him to a drag race down his huge driveway. He beat me handily since I started out in top gear (to go as fast as possible).
Around 1990 in junior high, I got a blue Novara mountain bike. This lasted me halfway through college until the fork bent. I left it for the summer with a soon to be ex girlfriend and never retrieved it. The next semester I got a truck.
In 2001 when I got my first full paycheck from a career job, I went out and signed for an apartment, bought a mattress, and a blue (sensing a pattern) Specialized Hardrock. I still have it, it's been an all purpose commuter monster and soon to be a tug.
