Thanks for that link. The poster says he had to remove the seatpost on his mountain bike to get it in there, but I hope that's not necessary for my road bike (57 cm).

Two! That's great to know. I'm perfectly happy removing both wheels, I did it with my old car.

I really prefer hiding the bike in the trunk. Makes you feel more secure about driving around and leaving your car for long periods of time, which is something I do now and then. For example, my wife and I will go to Toronto or Montreal, where I'll spend the afternoon riding and she'll tour a museum or some other place of cultural interest, and then we'll meet up again and park the car somewhere to continue further meanderings on foot. I wouldn't want to leave my car parked anywhere, on the street or in a parking garage, with a bike on a bike rack or visible in the back seat.
