The Pitlock skewer for QR axles has a low-profile, conical shape. I think it would be difficult to grab and turn with ViseGrips or pliers, although I'm sure that given time and enough tools, one could figure something out. I've never seen the Pitlock solution for solid axles, but I will be looking into that to protect the generator hub I'm putting on the daughter's college bike.
