surprising footware-pedal combination

A few weeks ago I ended up spending an entire morning riding in the rain with my Keen sandals. My commuter bike has MKS Sylvan Touring pedals, which I really like, but they were a bit slick in the rain with the Keens. Not a real problem, because commuting and riding errands I'm certainly not a stomper and my cadence isn't nearly as high as when I ride my road bike.

Anyway, for some reason last week I decided to wear my Merrell Barefoot Trail Gloves. I've worn them ever since. Since I'm not stomping or out of the saddle with my commuter/utility bike I don't need a real stiff shoe and I find that I like the way the shoes kind of wrap the pedal. Somewhat surprised I like it, as I've been cleating it for a few decades now on road and off road, but it just feels great. I'm curious whether anyone else is using something similar.
