I had these really lovely clients with a really lovely Boxer. The dog had a brain tumor, was treated with radiation therapy and lived way way way longer than expected- several years. So I saw these people quite a bit, got to know them well, they would always get me a nice present at Christmas, etc.
Finally though, the day came to put the dog to sleep, and it was really sad. Everyone was crying, me, my nurses, the receptionists and of course the people. About an hour later, I leave to make my train and I get stuck behind a car going pathologically slow, like 15 mph on a single lane road. I'm really irritated, but thankfully I do not tailgate the car. Then the car turns left, the direction I need to go, and I'm stuck behind it more on another single lane road. Now I'm really afraid I'm going to miss my train. Finally a right turn, two lanes going in my direction, now I can finally pass the car, but I get stuck at a light and the car pulls up beside me. I glance over to see what this person looks like who is driving so slow. Of course it is the people whose dog I had put to sleep. The receptionists later told me that they sat in the car crying for an hour before they could manage to drive away. They were still racked with sobs sitting at the light. Boy, was I was glad that I had not been an obnoxious tailgater that day.
