This is not always true FYI. Sometimes non-invasive. But a string foreign body (that's what its called) can be one of the most serious types of ingestions in animals. With the normal peristaltic movements of the intestines, the string can saw through multiple loops of intestines causing multiple leaks in the intestines and very major surgery to fix. String FB that are removed non-invasively are the lucky ones, but everyone should realized that string can be deadly in cats.
