I think the problem most people have with the announcers on races shown in the U.S. is the fact that they say the same things over and over. Paul Sherwin is the worst at this and "Gogo" is a close second. Phil Liggett is getting to the point where he can't even participate in half of the telecast anymore.

Personally, I think the best you see in the U.S. is Marty MacDonald on Cycling.tv. He brings the insight of actually having run a continental team, knows not only a lot about cycling, but also a lot about the business. That leads to a different perspective than the typical "I was a domestique and now I'm a commentator" announcer or people like Phil who never raced. I also much prefer Matthew Keenan, who does the first half hour or so of the Universal Sports online coverage in the U.S., to Phil and Paul.

As others point out, however, you're never going to find someone that everybody likes. I just wish so many of them wouldn't say the same things over and over again.
