Yeah, I have always used it to track the mileage on things like chains, tires, brake pads and pedals so I'd have some idea when they were likely to need replacement/maintenance. That was the main thing I used the site for. Strava has nailed this feature by the way. Go to My Gear, click on the bike, and start adding components. If you really want to get fancy you can use an irrelevant component (like rear shock on a road bike) to log chain lube.
