The distinction is a little arbitrary, 3 season tents are what most of us use for winter camping. There are some things people like on a winter tent: bias against netting tent walls; bias for self-supporting; bias for sturdy; bias for a vestibule; bias for a frost liner (never used one). I mostly don't worry about even most of that stuff. The only time I saw a VE24 (4 pole dome) destroyed was when someone took it summer camping in iceland and the winds were so high it was repeatedly flattened. The poles had fractures on the downwind side. No trees to hide amongst, probably safer not to.
