Bikes: one for everything

While I didn't do the entire ride, it was pretty nuts out there and not sure how many pics u will see unless riders stopped to take them. My club ride goes from Carlsbad to San O power plants and turn around before the bike trail near Basilone and heads back south. Us going north bound was nuts, through the Bike trail that goes from Las Pulgus to the camp grounds is pretty narrow, 2 a breast is max on each lane. Groups were riding 5 wide into on coming traffic and not moving over at all. They got some nice F bombs from me I was only in a group of 3 as I got dropped already at this point. That riding attitude lead to what we saw on the return trip heading south right before the sag at the Las Pulgas gate. 2 riders was laid out, big group around them and head being stabilized by others. Very Very $hitty. In a group of four, we're on the very wide run way before this point since it's "safer". A rider coming up was being a bad looky loo and start veering right into us. I had to scream HEADS UP and that guy finally saw us very close to him, his eye widened. I was happy we got out of the crazy zone, it was sorta calm through the base but lots of slower riders 2-5 a breast had our group nearing on the yellow line to pass. Not much traffic on base so it was sorta OK at that point. While on base we saw the ambulance going to help the guy on the run way. Mind you it was the 3rd one we saw that morning

Oceanside wasn't eventful, in Carlsbad we stopped at the Grand Deli for a Ham n cheese omelet and 2 cokes. I needed fuel pretty good as I was at mile 62 already and had only 2 cliff bars and 4 bottles of water cuz it was humid n hot already. Continued down the coast some more, leap frogging groups when safe to get in the street, actually road in the lanes over the bike line 70% of the time....there was allot of riders out. I had my go pro in my pocket but I was riding pretty defensive since there was so much bike traffic and cars around, so never took it out. Refilled a bottle @ Trek super bikes across from the Solona beach train depot, checked to see if a friend was working, she managed to get a saturday off. All the mechs and sales guys knew me and what happened so they were happy to see I was back in a kit and out there kicking my own but. Bought two packs of sports beans and ate them while chatting. Back on the road, back in the heat. I was a sweating mess. Garmin was reading 88-90* at this point, glad we had a slight tail wind to help push a bit. Going into Torrey Pine hill at mine 80, I felt good at the bottom, my gearing was meant for the flatter stuff, 36/23 was my low gear so I had to climb at 10mph ish or I'd loose cadence and burn what ever matches left off the saddle. Near the top was very hot and no wind at all I was a boiling sweaty blob. Lots of evasive moves made to void other riders that was crawling and zig zagging all over the bike lane and out over the line. Scary!! I saw the popsicle sag stop right over the crest of Torrey Pines hill. OOOO it looked so good, but I pushed on w my 1 full bottle to get me to my stop. I had a family outing at a Chinese buffet I was riding too down off Miramar Road. Grandma just turned 94!! So I was time sensitive about my stops.

Sorry PJ I only took my go pro out once as I passed by the Air Museum along the Miramar Marine base (old navy base)
