yeah...for me, a corrupt file = lost data. with the devices like the 305 & 705, they stored data in plain text (well, it was essentially contained in an XML wrapper). if the ride was important, you could go in and salvage some or all of it by hand.
the newer devices use .FIT files (binary). they're harder to repair, and in most cases i find that they cannot be repaired.
it's not like these devices lose data constantly -- far, far from it. but even a file or 2 in a year is too much (for me) when the device's intended purpose is to record data.
