Having just restored my 1974 bike, I found
Woodstock D2901 1-Pound Rouge Buffing Compound, Red Robot Check
to be very useful.
The 1# block is enough for multiple lifetimes.
Rub it on to a soft cloth (I use red Mechanic's Shop Towels at 25¢ each) and then polish.
Gentle and brightens well.
