the rear is much tighter on my 4.5 - a Vittoria Randonneur (sp?) Cross fits nicely but I don't think I could go any higher.

I tried a 32c Continental tour Plus but it was narrower than the Vittoria! (or at least indistinguishable) Conti needs to get a new ruler. took that puppy back.

two more tires on the way this week: Schwalbe Marathon Racer and Kenda Kwick, both 30s.

It seemed to work until just a tiny little pebble got caught between the tire & brake. And that was on a dry surface. I'm sure it would be almost unrideable on a wet surface when dirt, sand, small sticks etc. would likely stick to the tire.
