Sounds extreme, but I'm familiar with a similar phenomenon. There are times when climbs are among the fastest segments on a loop of the park I might do. It's mental. I delight in hammering up inclines (not 10%, though), and when hills are tough, sometimes I'm
afraid to go slow and loose momentum, but hammering down a long straight is just a drag.
