This sums the pedal options for me also. Plus, shoes made to work with clips and straps are now-a-days few and far in between.

All of my bikes, except one of the touring bikes are SPD equipped. The platform pedal equipped touring bike is great for running errands and riding with the grand kids, but would receive pedals from one of the other bikes if I chose it for a tour.
