The most difficult thing about this topic is that the pecking order changed from year to year. Early to mid 70s, it was no doubt Paramount, Fillet-brazed Sports Tourer (later called Superior), Super Sport (like the Sports Tourer/Superior, but with a 1-piece Ashtabula crank) then Continental and Varsity flash-welded bikes.
Later mid to later 70s, you'd have to include the LeTour (which ended up replacing the Super Sport) then later still in the decade, the Super Le Tour would have slotted in after the Paramount. Somebody else mentioned the short-lived Volare which was really nice in the late 70s.
By the early to mid 80s, there was the Paramount at the top, then Japanese-built lugged models like the Voyager and the Super Sport (no longer fillet-brazed in Chicago). Mid-80s they had the Peloton at the second-tier spot, then the Super Sport -- with Columbus tubing!
The Circuit came in the mid-late 80s -- nice bike with Columbus tubing and SunTour's 2nd tier Sprint components.
The lineup just kept changing!
By the way -- I just had a post about the fillet-brazed Schwinns on the Retrogrouch Blog last week -- it might be worth a read if you want to know more about the difference between the fillet-brazed models and the flash-welded ones.
