They are both great bikes and you should buy the one that just speaks to you. With the Fantom you are buying a bike that you most likely have never ridden which is a risk, not a huge one but one none the less. I think Salsa has done a good job designing the Vaya's and it can do everything you need it to do. There is also something to be said to buying from a local store.

What ever you choose, I am sure you will be happy. They are both great bikes.
