Let's see some pix of the Voyageurs and the Passage!
I just posted some pictures of the V'gers in the Post your Schwinn Voyageur! thread. Here is my 1987 as it sits today. The Passage is at my son's in Austin TX. It is all scratched up and had the derailleur hanger snapped off when I got it - not much to look at anyway.
Not sure what I'm going to do with the two Voyageurs yet. My 1987 is still on the rattle can paint job I gave it before I built it up and doesn't look bad yet and is modified the way I want it for loaded touring. If the 1985/86 is truly a SP in disguise I would rather invest in that frame for professional painting or powder coating. It would have a nicer Columbus fork but it does not have the drilled through mid fork mounts like the 1987 and those are required for my Blackburn low riders. The hubs on the 1986 are the nicer Suzue with cartridge bearings but there is some corrosion on the rim eyelets.
Given that the riding season is coming to an end I will probably get the green 1986 up and running and try to log some miles on it yet this fall. Originally I was going to flip it until I started thinking it may be an SP. I'll try to compare it to the 1987 and stew on it over the winter! I bought the 1987 because my Specialized Expedition had shimmy issues when loaded and I wanted something more stable. Since then I had the fork trued a little on the Expedition and swapped the racks which has stabilized it. So the Voyageur has been more of an all around rider than a loaded tourer for me. Eventually one of the Schwinns will have to go but I have real difficulty in saying goodbye to any touring bike! I currently have 9 bikes with front and rear rack mounts……..
