On Marshall?
I've ridden Marshall - I'll take that bike lane any day over what was(n't) there. The bike lane pushes cars six additional feet from the curb. If you're riding near the outside white line, you're pretty much out of the door zone.
I just read that Minneapolis is looking to put in more "protected" bike lanes - between the curb and the row of parked cars. No thanks. Intersections are still the most dangerous area, bike lane or not.
A bike lane on the other side of the cars will "protect" you from being seen by turning traffic.
This bike lane looks a lot like the one on Minnehaha in Minneapolis. I rode that for the first time a couple weeks ago. It is not great (compared to my normal ride on the traffic free river road path), but I was pleasantly surprised by how courteous most of the auto traffic was. Probably has to do with our increasing numbers of bicyclists.
