A 1970s UO-8 has 96 mm fork spacing, but it barely took any effort at all to spread my UO-8's fork by hand to insert a wheel with a 100 mm hub. Same story in the rear. My '73 UO-8's dropouts measured just a little under 124 mm apart without a wheel inserted and a 126 mm hub slipped in with very little effort to spread the stays.
...yes, this is quite true. You might want to Google frame and fork dropout alignment, or you might not.
