Is it simply because it is lighter? Although I think the difference is only around 5 to 6 pounds(2.5-3.0Kgs).

There have been some interesting posts on this forum in recent times talking about how skinnier tyres will likely have increased rolling resistance, but maybe the skinnier tyres on the FX is better suited to roads, whereas the DS tyres are more of a compromise between road and off-road.

Would love to know how the FX and DS would compare if the FX had 32mm Schwalbe Marathon Supremes and the DS had 38mm Schwalbe Marathon Supremes as the tyres.
I'm not shure that it is faster, but it feels faster, might be weight, might also be the weight difference and length of the forks or just my mind playing tricks on me. Looking at the bikes and taking equipment into the picture, I doubt that the FX would actually be a much faster bike if they had the same tyres. I really like my DS and it fits my needs, but I am probably going to put smaller tyres on in the next couple of months, when I have done that I will let you know if I think it feels as fast as the FX
