I will take more time to sort through the links BUT do understand
I'm not looking for the exact tire nor a dedicated cross tire -- at this point just something to be used in dirt that is a
507 size AND 1.5" or less in width. I see 1.75s from Europe and will see if they will squeeze in (the front fork would be fine but the rear will be tight I think -- whatever the case they will really be too big and clumsy for a kids road/cross bike.
What was great about the original tires was that they could be used for getting around town, they were fast enough for touring and they could be used for playing around at a cross track -- and this versatility was how the bike was sold. It now looks like I'll have to swap off tires constantly and that there really is nothing in original size.
Don't get me wrong, the Jake 24 is a really nice bike but I expected that like the adult version the kid's bike would be a versatile one-bike-fits all product where one could ride to a cross event or head out on a day-long road ride without swapping tires on and off.
I also think/hope that g
oing with a Redline or Isla bike would have meant better long-term support. For Kona (and here they are probably no different than many others) the kids bikes just don't seem to be taken seriously.
Anyhow thanks for the feedback if you have a suggestion for the most versatile, cross usable 507 tire in 1.5 or less do let me know.

Hell, check this review for the 29er version of those tires out:

Even the tires that came with the bike weren't dedicated cross tires, but then again, they didn't have to be. They're MTB tires meant to be used on trails; just find a set of tires that fit your criteria and you'll be fine. Judging from the lists you've gotten, there are a ton of better choices.
Thus, you can probably start using kids' MTB tires on that Kona. Your choices won't be as huge - no Clement PDX, for example - but your kid's still got a cross bike.
