Hope to get back to DD's beautiful Zeus today. I had a bit of a delay due to a funeral I conducted yesterday.
I'll post some pictures before it goes back in the mail. Here's what I noted when I opened it up and went to work:
The grease had turned black and looked like the oil sludge out of a lawn mower that had never had the oil changed.
One pawl was stuck in the closed position due to this old grease, and thus it was operating on only one pawl.
There were four spacers inserted between the inner body and the outer race/retaining ring. This was too many and caused bearing slop.
I tried removing the thinnest spacer, but this caused a slight rub between the inner and outer body.
So after today's ride I'm hopeful I can find a Regina spacer that is ultra thin to add to the remaining Zeus spacers. My goal is to eliminate the bearing slop and the slight rub between the inner and outer body. I used the ultra slippery Finish Line fluoride grease in order to appeal to DD's manly-man racing sensibilities.
After all, we need to maintain the mystique which surrounds our C&V legend who cycled the challenges of Diego Garcia!
