"Kit" in current British English can mean all sorts of things. Riding in full kit is definitely about clothing. "Nice bit of kit" could be almost anything, but usually relates to equipment rather than clothing and could be about a component or a whole bike.
Yes, as I said a page back, I think. It has also been used as reference to clothing when talking about a sponsored rider...
