Seems to me, is forces are different.. overdrive gears .. they are used to go faster , the air resistance is weaker than gravity..
at the speed/power of mortal humans
and gravity is what pulls you back going up hills using reduction gears to improve the MA of your legs.


so the torque transfer for example on the swiss mountain drive is rigid, a strap around the frame and a lever
the 2 other cranks use cone toothy grip washers chamfered the BB shell edges and friction of them being screwed together.


10 of the 14 Rohloff gears are less than 1:1.. AW3 is 1 of each 1 over 1 reduction..
