It was depressing to me, as the beauty is built on the backs of human suffering. I would never get past that living there.

How do things like that fold into a livability index?
I lived 30 miles down the road for 3 years and often visited both Savannah Ga and Charleston, S.C, both beautiful cities. I never thought of the human suffering aspect. Now I live in Richmond and there was tons of suffering here. Prior to that Fredericksburg, Va. again littered with battlefields. Just about any place you visit or live has a past full of injustices and or death. Live in the present and create a better future for those who come after you, while at the same time remembering the past but not allowing it to determine the road ahead.....
