I like The North Face Tadpole. It is free standing, solid, and can fit 2 if you are in a pinch. It isn't the lightest or cheapest but it is a solid free standing 3 season tent so when it rains like hell I'm not nervous. For comparison The Tarptent Squall 2 is much lighter. But it is useless here in Taiwan because the ground is too hard to stake out and it rains hard. The ground can get saturated fast. Maybe the Squall 2 would be good in a nice ideal CA campground but not for stealth camping in Asia. I don't recommend any tent that isn't free standing.
