61st Birthday Ride

After a couple of years of cold weather and/or rain, I managed to skip work and ride my age on my birthday this year. There's a lot to be said for riding your age on your actual birthday as opposed to a day in the vicinity of the big day. It wasn't a fast ride, but not bad for the elevations and the fact that I was just enjoying a last minute day off and beautiful riding weather.

I planned my route pretty well with mostly rolling hills, great views, but not the most difficult route I could have taken in my area. I wish I could have quit at exactly 61 miles as the last .44 was a real bit ... er, I mean, quite difficult. Actually, I do those last climbs to my home so often that it's auto pilot and not a chore at all. In fact, on a beautiful day, at the end of a perfect ride, it was a fun way to end up.

I hadn't planned on including the climb in the middle, but a couple of friends decided to join me at their lunch break so I timed my ride and planned the route to meet them and we did that part together. It was a great addition to the ride for the companionship, the views, and the fast descent! I like solo rides, but to have a little company was nice.
