Many folks who choose a hybrid over a road bike do so because they want and/or need a higher handlebar height for more comfort. That being said, after one gets their seat dialed in at the correct height, the handlebars are still too low for alot of folks. Most would agree, the handlebars should be at least a little higher than the saddle, with ride gurus like Rivendell's Grant Petersen saying 2" to 4" is where most riders find their comfort zone.
This change can be made on a hybrid with a different stem or a stem riser. In my case, a Delta Stem Raiser for $20 gave me the 2" I was looking for.
After the correct bike size is selected, the seat height should be the next consideration followed by the handlebar height. To adjust the seat just to accommodate the handlebars is, many times, to go in the wrong direction.
