I'm just guessing that you're hands were very cold or maybe had the beginnings frost nip. If they were frost bitten and you did what you described, you'd have been wrything on the floor in pain and doubtfully typing anything, not to mentioning tying your shoes.
About the gloves, there are plenty of inexpensive ones that will work fine.
