Don't ride in that gear combination - noisy, very high wear, and there are combos with the next largest chainring and larger cogs in back that are likely a duplicate in gear ratio. For example the gear ratio you get with a 28/12 combo is close to what you get with 38/16, but you are engaging more teeth at once and with a much straighter path from front to rear.
