I built my "hybrid" from a 2003 Schwinn Sierra MTB. With the condition of local roads as they are I knew I needed a MTB frame and wider tires, but didn't want the complexity of 3X10 gearing I was never going to use. So, I outfitted the Schwinn with 700x45c dual tread tires and basically old school road components. (Avid V-brakes, Huret and Sachs running gear, Sugino crank, Gel seat). Comfortable and durable.
