In terms of shifting performance you're actually slightly better off with many of the top-end alloy cranks. Carbon looks dead sexy, though. As far as weight savigs, eh...you could save some weight there but your cost to benefit ratio is pretty low compared to saving weight elsewhere (like wheels).
