It was tough for us to raise $800 minimum ($400 for each of us). I barely made it with like $450, and we ended up having to pay the remaining $75 or so to get my wife to $400. It's just incredibly hard when you want to participate but don't have a large pool of people to get donations from. Especially when you both know all the same people! (and especially when 13,000 other people in our city are all trying to do the same thing). Not to mention the $200 for registration.
This is what has stopped me for the last 5 years or so since I started riding. I don't have the pool of people to ask and I sure don't have $600 that I want to spend to go ride my bike.
