I used to feel that way too, that is until I moved from Seattle to the middle of the Sonoran Desert. Now comfort when it's hot is a lot more important than someone's idea of proper sock height.
I wear quarter socks that you'd probably call girls anklets.
Oh, and they probably create less wind drag when you're riding.
