I have two longboards and inline skates. My old commute was just two miles on good roads. I used the skates much of the time when the weather was decent. I have done 60 miles on inline speed skates many times. I can do up to 50 miles on my G|Bomb longboard. Since bike lanes and smooth tarmac has been added to my city I find myself skating a whole lot more - mostly recreational but some trips to the grocery for a few things. Not nearly as practical as a bicycle for getting there, but WAY more practical once you get there. Just step off the board and carry it right in. Even check it at the coat check at the local museum.
