Bikes: 2008 Novara Randonee - love it. Previous bikes:Motobecane Mirage, 1972 Moto Grand Jubilee (my fave), Jackson Rake 16, 1983 C'dale ST500.

The jockey wheels turn much faster than the pedals, so can't be the problem. If the derailleur jumps it's because the chain is not passing smoothly through the jockey wheels. You most likely have tight links in the chain
