I realize that if something is not an Olympic event, most folks won't know about it. You have Internet access. Look around at what the rest of us are doing.
Longboarding is getting so huge, I expect there will be issues with it at some point. As public awareness to the longboard 'fad'(?) grows, longboard riders coming under the same scrutiny that fixie riders do.
This skateboard stuff seems like it is off-topic, but it is very relevant. When skateboarding exploded in it's last cycle, there were in fact kids riding everywhere, through traffic, over public structure, bombing private property etc. It seemed no fixture was immune from being marked by indy trucks. It was a huge issue in 1000's of cities. Where I lived in the Philly area, cops were chasing kids around the clock while the crack dealers traded with impunity. When rational sensibilities prevailed, skaters, skaters parents and authoritarian figures were able to work out rules and facilities to accommodate them in these cities. Another example of a large faction of people who were able to work with the public and officials and have a positive outcome. Cyclists could learn from the little kids instead of just acting like them. It is really time to reconsider our stance and who we have 'advocating' for us. What we are doing now clearly is a total fail.
