The answer to that question is yes. The apparent visual differences between 550 vs 1100 lumens and the effects of light distribution are further very important considerations.
So, if you're happy with the pattern of a given light but just want more light, getting a second one is a pretty reasonably way of accomplishing that...along with the mentioned benefits.
Appreciate your well written response, but I would point out that the OP wants to be able to see further down the road, rather than wanting more light. If more light doesn't mean a noticeable increase in being able to see further down the road, I don't think it meets what the OP was asking for.
(If the question had been "I can't see road details when it rains", then doubling the light output would help.)
