Let me ask this: Is there a bike brand that's notorious more making crappy carbon frames?
Now, no. 10-15 years ago, yes...The early-mid 90's was the infancy of many material revolutions that have changed the industry but had their period of growing pains. The original Trek OCLVs (not the Aegis Treks like Vipers) often failed in the bb. The old CF Looks were noodles, and Al were either noodles (Vitus) or painfully harsh (old Cannondales) That was then, this is now. Everyone has progressed up the learning curve. Those that didn't are gone.
The best thing you could do for yourself is actually read the posts that explain clearly that it's not the material, but how it's used...all the rest is just conjecture. Go do some test rides. All things being equal, if you still like/want a steel DeRosa, then write the check. All high end bikes these days work very well.
Personally, if I were buying a CF or Al bike, I'd make sure it had a replaceable rear derailleur hanger.
ABout the Trek video "ripping others apart"...I don't trust anyone who has to sell their product by denigrating others. It's not necessary. Good stuff with a track record speaks for itself.
