My guess is the OP rarely frequents the MUP, but due to his recent injury decided to give it a go. No surprise that the early morning on a weekend is the busiest time, so it takes lots of patience and maneuvering, especially when your body isn't in the best of shape. It sounds like the OP was just blowing off some steam and showing his disappointment that it wasn't the quiet, leisurely ride that he was hoping for. During the week at another time might be much better, but early morning on the weekend is time to stay away. Some MUP's have one trailhead, rather than several feeders, so as you get 2-3 miles away from the beginning, you get away from the congestion. Quite rural roads are always nicer to explore, but with them comes the risk of encountering fast moving vehicles. There was recently a hit-and-run, where the scum bag driver hit the cyclist, then left him in the ditch to die. Fortunately a group including a doctor and paramedic where behind him and gave the necessary care to save him. Broken neck, back, several other injuries. We obviously take some risk when riding on the road, but the risk on a MUP can't be compared unless you have extremely poor handing skills.
