Here's my (as I call it) bizarre take on a XC bike that I just finished building last night. I was too busy riding around the block in the dark to take pictures then, but now I'm ready .

Frame: 2004 Jamis Komodo FX.
Shifters and Derailleurs: 2005 SRAM X.9 triggers and derailleur and Xgen front derailler with PG-970 cassette and PC-990 chain (the powerlink is great! this is my first time using one ).
Fork: 2005 Marzocchi MX Pro ETA 105mm.
Brakes: Avid Speed Lever 7s with Avid BB7 disc brakes.
Seat: Thomson Elite seatpost with WTB Speed V Race and Salsa quick-release clamp.
Stem: Thomson Elite (I may change the length and angle later for a better fit).
Handlebars: Race Face Deus XC with Race Face Good 'n' Evil grips (why not? I wear gloves anyway ).
Crankset: 2005 Truvativ Holzfeller (a little overkill, I really want a Crank Brothers Cobalt ) with Gigapipe DH ISIS bottom bracket.
Pedals: Crank Brothers Mallet Cs. They actually work pretty well as non-clipless pedals too (nothing like really good platforms, but better than I expected).
Wheels: Mavic XC717 rims with Hope XC hubs and Wheelsmith spokes and some Salsa steel skewers.
Tires: Specialized Hemisphere Armadillo (should take care of thorns during my commuting, I hope). I'm trying out Continental tubes in them right now. They're really, really heavy, so I hope they work.

All-in-all, it weighs in at about 29 pounds.
