not sure a CX bike would be the best choice for you, you may find the road bars and more aggressive body position very different when compared to the two bikes you have noted above. A broken chain is a fairly minor repair/replacement and your 830 will be very serviceable for years to come given a good tune up. However sometimes having a new one and the warranty with LBS support, may be the piece of mind you are looking for. good luck, with your decision
