My disc brakes don't rub, so long as I adjust them correctly. If you've tried everything and are still having trouble, perhaps you should let a bike mechanic have a turn. It may be cheaper than buying new v-brakes.
I actually bought them new on a bike and they rubbed. Returned the bike they "fixed" them. twice I believe (maybe more) still rubbed. Another shop. Even returned them to Hayes. The modulation stunk after getting them back from Hayes too. Still they rubbed. WTF? I already have the XT's parallel V's coming and the LX handles on, waiting for there partner. 60 bucks total, not bad, really and I can shave a little weight too. They would be fine for down hill use but x-ctry there a not gonna do it.
