climbing out the saddle...is it a bad habit?

i've been riding for about 6 months. i do about 20 miles a day around 5 days week along a highway that has a bike path running along it. Every couple of miles there some hills to go over bridges of which some are pretty long and steep for me.I find it much easier to be out the saddle in a slightly harder gear then "spinning" it out which I have been doing for a while. My times have improved quite a bit since changing to this way. I'm not looking to race or anything, just dont want to start a bad habit....it just feels much more natural or something to me...so is any harm in training this way??
