I never felt any warm Rim issues at all .

the Koga I got after my last long tour the Hydraulic rim brakes work so well I felt no Need to change them, though I could .
03 WTR had disc brakes , the ISO tabs are there .. never feel any problems with the Hydro Rim brakes (Once set Up)

pads snap in place .. on the slave cylinder ends ,, there is enough mass that no fluid heating happens
Hydro discs need expansion tanks in the Levers , because they Do Heat the fluid.

The Bike Friday came with Both, Too though it has Disc Brakes out of the box .. both are trekking bar set-ups.
