Not all of the Presta to Schraeder adapters are made equal. I have two old brass ones with lots of patina. As with most small things (and these days many large things) I sometimes can't find one, so a few months age I bought 2-3 spares so I could loss them also. Turns out the new brass and aluminum ones I got for a buck each are just a few mm longer. They fill the tires fine but my tire gauges will not work on them. Then center pin of the gauge will not just reach the Presta pin so the gauge can read the air pressure! Took a few minutes to figure that one out. So, I will modify them with a file.
