Seriously though, driver inattention and poor awareness create this situation all too often. As cyclists, we are seeing more of what is going on around us. We are watching lights so that we can get that extra second to push off/clip in/gear up at a turn like this. Drivers are often fiddling with stuff in the vehicle. Riding 'in traffic' in this situation is sometimes more risk than reward. As with all things, evaluating each situation individually, FRAP may be the right answer, VC may be the right answer, but neither is 'always the right answer'.
